Adding to the already booming stretch of Indian School Road, the Arcadia neighborhood is quickly becoming a hot spot for foodies.  With the recent additions of Sam Fox’s Doughbird, Tacos, Tequila & Whiskey, Even Steven’s and Gino’s East (and will be joined later this year by Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers) the neighborhood will have two newcomers in late August or early September.

The Porch

4017 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix

The Porch, a new neighborhood gastropub is being brought to you from the same partners in the Scottsdale Entertainment District bar, the Bevvy.  They have taken over the space that once was the Little Shanghai Chinese restaurant on the southeast corner of Indian School Road and 40th Street and tore it down to the studs.  Renovations will turn the space into a modern, rustic-yet-retro neighborhood gathering spot.

On the Menu

Tyler Meigs is the general manager, previously of Dakota and the W Hotel, both in Old Town Scottsdale says the bar will offer elevated pub grub.  The menu is still in the planning stages but might include items like jalapeño poppers, fried pickles, roasted cauliflower and sweet tea-brined chicken.

There will be a large patio generously landscaped with trees and plants and plenty of seating.  And your furry friends will be in luck too!  One of the partners loves dogs, so the patio will be dog-friendly and have games for people to play.

Masterpiece Donuts & Coffee+

3950 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix

Tom and Sheri Schrader are following their dream and stepping into a new adventure.  Current owners of a national home-cleaning service, they are launching Masterpiece Donuts & Coffee+.

Tom Schrader, co-owner of MD&C+, says, “I’ve literally had donuts for breakfast every day for the past 30-plus years, so over the decades, Sheri and I have learned the best donut shops in the 50 markets across North America.”

MD&C+ will be a counter-service operation, offering online ordering and pay-in-store at one of five iPad kiosks, and customers pick up at a designated counter. Once ordered, it takes 90 seconds to cook the vanilla cake batter doughnuts, which are then iced, glazed or drizzled according to the customer’s whim.

MD&C+ will serve Italian-based illy coffee. The masterpiece part of the name comes from the gallery-space decor, which will feature works by local artists and two nearby schools, Arcadia High and Christ Lutheran School. A semi-private “Artists Corner” will encourage children to work on arts and crafts projects, or host meetings.
